Welcome to the English Martyrs Catholic Voluntary Academy website. We are a small Voluntary Aided Catholic Academy with 157 children aged between 4 – 11 years old. We are part of the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi Academy Trust together with 16 other primary schools and 4 secondary schools across Leicestershire and Rutland.
We are happy to welcome all families to be part of our amazing community which includes Catholic families, families of any faith or none. Our school is in close proximity to military bases, and we welcome families with parents serving in the armed forces, considering carefully how we support children accessing service premium. More information about where service families can receive support can be found in our Parents tab under Parent Info.
We are very proud of our school and we enjoy being part of an active and friendly community. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum setting high expectations and encouraging all our children to achieve their potential before leaving us in year 6. Our mission statement below explains how we want our children to lead their lives.

We acknowledge that our children need a child-centred holistic approach to learning rooted in faith. Our mission statement which includes the word gifts reminds us all that our children are gifts from God, and how important our job as educators is to ensure that we provide an education for our children which enables them to be the best they can be. We have adopted 10 school virtues based on learning habits and our Gospel values: – faith, love, kindness, respect, confidence, resilience, love of learning, forgiveness, courage and patience.

We are proud of the outcome of our recent inspection, which recognises the strong standards across our school. Inspectors noted that pupils thrive in a caring and inclusive community where behaviour is exemplary and attendance is high. As one pupil put it, “The school is like a jigsaw. Everyone is different, but we fit together perfectly.” We are so proud of our pupils, staff and families who make this community so special. We look forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks!

Happy World Book Day! We have had a fantastic day with staff and children arriving to school dressed as a book character or as a word, we then had lunchtime book activities and we also enjoyed a special World Book Day lunch!

The children in EYFS, Y1 and Y2 had a fantastic Kings and Queens Day last week to start their new topic. They came dressed in royal clothes and enjoyed their Coronation parade, a royal feast and learning how to do a royal dance! 👑

We had a successful CAFOD Family Fast Day in school today. The Mini Vinnies made a delicious vegetable soup with the help of Mrs Burgess. This was served alongside lunch today for a small donation to CAFOD. Thank you to all involved and for all the donations.

We have been busy celebrating Children`s Mental Health Week with Toast Tuesday yesterday and Workout Wednesday today once the rain had passed. A huge thank you to Tesco Oakham for donating the bread and butter and to Mrs Burgess for the special Workout Wednesday biscuits at lunchtime.
